3 Powerful Principles

Matthew 22:41–46. “What Think Ye of Christ?”
Christ was teaching the Pharisees that he was more than an earthly child, he was the son of God. They questioned him and said that the prophecy stated that the Messiah would be David’s son. I am sure most of you knew this info, I did not and it was awesome to put it all together.
I was having a hard time understanding all of this so I did some reading. I am hoping I have this right and I am VERY much open to corrections.
David was a city, named after the king of Israel. Jesus is a direct descendant of David, through Joseph. Joseph was the son of Jacob who was descended from the line of Solomon, the son of David. So literally speaking the family line is connected to David. Therefore meaning “Son of David”. Some have also done the line of genealogy from Mary connecting Jesus back to David.
Spiritually speaking, the fact that Jesus has been referred to as the son of David means that he has fulfilled a prophecy. Jesus was in fact literally descended from David’s family line however it is also clear that Jesus was the son of David in the sense of serving as a fulfillment of David’s seed.

I like the idea of a horse!
This is a Hebrew word meaning ‘please save us’. When Jesus came on the white donkey the people were saying Hosanna and they laid out palm branches for the donkey to walk on. The people shouting Hosanna realized who Jesus was and that he was the Messiah.
One of my favorite parts of the reading was in Matthew 21:10 “all the city was moved” meaning that the news of Jesus coming into the city was traveling fast, he was known by many and the rest were inquiring.

He spoke about the depth of the love of God. It is a full commitment and all of our desires should be rooted in a love of the lord. Our thoughts should be centered on the lord and all of our thoughts directed to the Lord. He asked why God put the first commandment first, he knew that if we loved him we would love others. When we are required to choose, let us be anxious to please God.

In Matthew 21:12-16, 23-27
The leaders in Jerusalem thought that Jesus coming was a threat to them and their authority. When Jesus was teaching at the temple the Jewish leaders came and asked him “By what authority doest these things?” Matthew 21:23
The leaders at that time were in their positions because of ancestry.
Jesus told them that he was there from his father, and he began to teach in parables.

The Father of the sons is God himself who offers employment in his earthly vineyard to all his children. The first son, who initially refused to labor in his Father’s vineyard but later repented and served him, is symbolical of the publicans and harlots who repented of their early sins and became faithful servants in their Father’s cause.
The second son, who willingly accepted an assignment in the vineyard but then failed to render the appointed labors, is symbolical of the Jewish leaders who professed to be about their Father’s business but were, in fact, letting the vineyard degenerate. In Mathew 21:1-11 when the savior enters into Jerusalem. This entrance is the fulfillment of the prophecy in Zechariah 9:9-10.
In those times the donkey was a symbol of Jewish Royalty. Jesus symbolically entered Jerusalem at that time showing that he was the Messiah, king of Israel. It showed that Jesus came peacefully and lowly.
When Jesus comes again to the earth he will come with glory and as a symbol of that glory in Revelation 19:11-16 it says he will be on a white horse rather than a white donkey.I like the idea of a horse!

McConkie explained the significance of the multitude spreading garments and branches before the Lord as He entered Jerusalem: “Only kings and conquerors received such an extraordinary token of respect as this. 2 Kings 9:13 Amid shouts of praise and pleas for salvation and deliverance, we see the disciples strewing our Lord’s course with palm branches in token of victory and triumph. This whole dramatic scene prefigures that yet future assembly when ‘a great multitude,’ … shall stand ‘before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands,’ crying with a loud voice, ‘Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.’
